My dad has a history of high blood pressure. His dad died at a very young age of a heart attack. Well, my dad said he was at work today and all the sudden felt like he was having a heart attack... he said he felt pressure in his chest, and then got scared and said his heart started racing... Being an RN I see this on a daily basis... but I worry.. he stopped taking his Atenolol the other day because he "ran out" I checked his bp and it is elevated at like 168/92... he has the chills off and on, but he also has a cough... he said his chest pain went away within a few minutes and has not had any since... his Heart rate is regular and steady.... no signs of dizziness, nausea, sweating, going down arm, etc.... he is stubborn and probably wouldnt say if there was something happeneing however, he hates doctors and will avoid them at any cost. I am concerned and dont know what else to do other than monitor him and encourage him to go in if he develops more symptoms... Sigh... why do parents have to be so stubborn?
